Free CPR Classes on Daufuskie

Reposted from an original post by Chris J. Many thanks for this info.

Daufuskie Island presents unusual challenges in the event of medical emergencies. Please read the following and join a class. CPR (Cardiopulminary Resuscitation), a life-saving procedure designed to restore normal breathing after a cardiac arrest, is very easy to learn and will never be forgotten. Be prepared to save the life of a family member, friend, or neighbor.

Dr. Carole Rizzo-Baum is excited to begin CPR/First Aid classes on Daufuskie Island. The registration forms are located in the Mansion at Haig Point, Daufuskie Blue, and the Coffee Shop at Maryfield School. Please complete the form and return it to one of those three places. Dr. Rizzo-Baum will then contact you to arrange the date and time for one of these ongoing classes. Due to the nature of the class, each session is limited to 6 to 8 people. Plan to spend approximately 3 hours to complete this class.

The class includes a video presentation, followed by a practical "hands-on" exercise, using maniquins. You will learn, the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and where on Daufuskie Island they are located. In addition, Basic First Aid Instruction will be included (i.e, recognition of stroke-versus-heart-attack, and management of common emergencies).

Mouth guards will be provided for each individual and the maniquins are sanitized between each student's use.

There is no charge to you for the class unless you require a Course Completion Card from the American Heart Association. In that case, a charge will be levied.
