Assessment comparison

There was a list today in the Island packet that was supposed include all community fees for communities in Beaufort. Haig Point listed fees were 17,962 up 40% from last year. I am curious as to why they did not include the transportation fee in the listing, as it is required and non negotiable. When this fee is included, Haig point dues land in the top three. Other very comparable dues include Colleton River, Berkley Hall and Spring Island. These communities offer many more amenities such as dedicated athletic centers with a variety of equipment, a large space and full time class instructors and massage therapists. Large dedicated art space so that residents can pursue passions in art and art instruction. They also have heated outdoor pools, indoor pools and hot tubs. There was a consideration years ago about expanding the gym area and then nothing. If the argument is our dues are competitive, it seems that making the amenities competence and appealing to a larger section of your community makes more sense. Instead we focus on golf, which is also important, but I would like to see money go towards other ventures as well.

It is certainly true that HP is not for anyone looking for an "inexpensive" place to live. Never has been and never will be.
