Environmental Committee Status Update & Needs
There have been a lot of questions about the absence of the environmental committee, who is running it, what it will address and basically who is pushing it forward. The fact that we have not have a functional environmental committee last year is troubling, especially in light of our recent tropical storm which caused significant environmental damage. Here is the most recent information I have on the committee and feel free to add more if you have it.
On Feb 4th, Gary Baum wrote the following: Gary Baum Feb 4, 2022, 4:52 PM to COMMENT, me, Doug We are restructuring the Environmental Committee and will start to fill out the committee immediately after the Annual Meeting February 21st. The Committee will be put together with several Haig Point Directors, Several Board members (including me), and Haig Pont members. We have already identified Greg Schupp as the Chair of the Committee and Amoret Klene as the Board Liaison. The charter of the Committee is going to be rewritten with specific goals surrounding the key issues that face us as a community environmentally. I hope this helps. Gary
I question which "Haig Point Directors" will make up the committee and whether they will be advisors only. On the Club FAQ, it is written that HP will be hiring an "environmental consultant" to form our strategy, but there hasn't been mention of this person yet.
We still do not have information on how the charter of the committee will be re-written, or who is going to set the goals surrounding the "key Issues" that we face environmentally. The ideal protocol for this would be for the committee and board to survey the owners to determine what their concerns are so that a list can be established and prioritized. Is a part time resident for a year count as a one year resident for a committee? It seems to me that if someone wants to volunteer their time for the benefit of the community they shouldn't have to sit in the waiting room for a year.
