A Powerful Letter From Mark McNiff, A Recent BOD Member About Proposed Assessment
Members will note the bottom of his note, tha Mark wishes this to be forwarded to all Members. What has been circulated is this note with some initial text apparently truncated.
Subject: Re: In Response to Assessment Reply-To: Mark <bigkniffer@aol.com> .....lling Jeff, that is your opinion but I respectfully disagree. The current board and management team is turning Haig Point from a Welcoming community into an Elitist Community. One of Haig Points greatest features is that it has always been a Welcoming Community where members checked their wallets at the ferry dock. That appears to be changing. When the President of the Board stands in front of the entire membership and acknowledges that many members are angry, upset and concerned, that he knows he will lose friends because they just can not afford the proposed assessment, but continues full speed ahead without concern for the members, our Welcoming Community of Haig Point is turned into an Elitist Club. There are several capital approvements that need to be addressed: 1. There are sections of our roads that need to be repaired. I challenge that the repairs needed today are $3,000,000 2. There are needs to replace our barges and some docks and piers. I again challenge that all need to be done tomorrow at the cost shown. ($4.9mm) 3. The bunkers on the golf course need to be repaired. The entire golf course does not need to be renovated tomorrow at the cost of $12mm+ 4. You can buy a 2500 โ 3000 sq ft home at Haig Point for $765,000 but it costs $765,000 to put a roof over half the clubhouse patio. Red flag on that one. This should tell you how clueless the board and management team are on controlling costs. 5. If the club was being properly managed financially the Pickle ball courts would be able to be paid out of our ongoing capital fund assessment. To expect the current 300+ members to foot the entire $21mm bill for the lack of maintenance & repairs over the last 37 years is unrealistic. To add insult to injury the board and management team feel it is okay for someone to join after the vote and be on the hook for nothing. Taking a portion of future initiation fees will not put a dent in the $7.5mm in proposed future road repairs. I will be voting NO on all 5 projects with the hope that the new board can regain the trust of the members and come back to us with a realistic plan to repair/replace what is critically needed. I truly hope the new board can return Haig Point to a Welcoming Community and reject the Elitist Club mentality. Respectfully, Mark McKniff If a member is not on this distribution please forward. I will try to get this to the entire membership . Sent from my iPad
