Arrow Casco Bay Lines - company profile and ships

Casco Bay Lines is the ferry service owned and operated by the Casco Bay Island Transit District (CBITD). It is the "lifeline" for the residents of the islands. Over 977,000 p***engers and their freight and 25,000 vehicles are transported annually. CBITD also carries the U.S. mail and transports school children to and from Portland. Incidental tour, cruise and charter service is offered as well.

CBITD is owned and operated by the residents of six Casco Bay islands and is governed by a board of twelve directors—ten elected from the islands, one appointed by the City of Portland, and one appointed by the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation. The islands which make up the District are Peaks Island, Little Diamond Island, Great Diamond Island and Cliff Island (which are within the City of Portland), the Town of Long Island, and Great Chebeague Island (which is part of the Town of ***berland until July 1, 2007, when it will become an independent town).

Casco Bay Lines operates 365 days per year, with a minimum of 4 weekday and 3 weekend trips to the Down Bay islands and 14 trips per day to Peaks Island. As the lifeline for the islands, CBITD must ensure that the residents have safe, dependable and reliable transportation for themselves and their goods on a scheduled daily basis.
