Arrow Tirrenia Ferries - company profile and ships

Tirrenia di Navigazione ferries make a large number of connections every year. On the Tirreno, a fleet consisting mainly of new high speed super-ferries that can reach speeds of 30 knots, guarantees comfort and reduced navigation times between:
- the Italian peninsula and Sardinia
- Naples and Palermo
- Cagliari, Palermo and Trapani

On the Adriatic, the Adriatic Division of Tirrenia di Navigazione, connects:
- Italy with Albania
Makes local connections:
- Isole Tremiti

Tirrenia also manages a large number of cargo crafts. In addition to these operations, the company is leader of the Tirrenia Group that, with its 90 ships, makes 60,000 crossings annually, covers 4,000,000 miles, accommodates 13 million p***engers, transports 2,000,000 cars and 6,500,000 linear meters of commercial vehicles.

Default The ships

The Tirrenia Fleet is constantly evolving. Between the end of 1999 and the year 2001, the new twin ferries, the VINCENZO FLORIO and the RAFFAELE RUBATTINO , went into service. In top comfort, each is designed to carry 1.378 p***engers and 700 cars on the Naples - Palermo route and back.

In the period between the Summer of 2001 and the Spring of 2002, the BITHIA and its twin JANAS went into service on the Genoa - Porto Torres route. Each ship can accommodate, with the highest environmental standards typical of cruise ships, up to 2.700 p***engers and 900 cars. Thanks to their 30 knots speed, the crossing time is considerably reduced.

At the beginning of 2003, the renovated AURELIA went back in service with its internal settings were totally renovated so that it could meet the high standards of all the most recent units in the fleet. It was followed in June by its twin ship CLODIA, which was also completely renovated and by the new cruise ferry ATHARA , of the same cl*** as the BITHIA and the JANAS . In June 2004, after being renovated as the twin ships Aurelia and Clodia, the NOMENTANA also returned in service. Finally, from June 2004 through March 2005, the cruise ferries NURAGHES and SHARDEN , of the same cl*** as the Bithia, the Janas and the Athara but with greater parking space, were also put in service. At 30 knots speed, the NURAGHES and the SHARDEN can respectively accommodate 3,000 p***engers and 1,085 cars. All of these ships cover the routes to and from Sardinia .

A SAFE FLEET

Cl***ification Certificate
All units in the fleet are equipped with a Cl***ification Certificate declaring the fitness of the hull and the engine department.

Transport Safety Certificate
All units also have a Transport Safety Certificate stating the ship's fitness and capacity with regards to safety fittings on board, facility, navigation equipment and the ship's seaworthiness. This certificate is renewed yearly subsequent to verification performed by the Harbour-Office and the RINA (Registro Italiano Navale).

Emergency Management
The crew's ability to respond to any type of emergency that could take place on board is certified by the Harbour-Office following a yearly verification, named "On board Services".

Safety Management System
Each ship and the Tirrenia Company act in compliance to the Safety Management System schedule through the statutory certification and its related inspection which is performed annually at the Company's offices; and, between the second and third year of the certification, with the ships' inspection. The Certificates have a five-year validity. This system guarantees the Company's overall fitness in matters concerning the safety of the ship and that of navigation, pollution prevention, and work on board.
